First Monarch Fundraising Tournament a Success
The 2014 Provincial A and HHL Champions held their first fundraising golf tournament at Wynyard Golf Club on Saturday, August 16th. The overwhelming success of the tournament, raising close to $2500, will likely bring this to be an annual summer event. Sixteen teams featuring sixty-four golfers took part in the four ball best ball format. Players, coaches and executive members joined fa ns and community members to raise money for the Senior Monarchs.
The tournament had the generous support of businesses and community members to help make it a success. Bolt Seed Farms Ltd. sponsored a $10,000 hole-in-one prize on Hole 2. No hole-in-ones were scored. On course prizes were also sponsored by businesses/community members. Men’s long drive by Mountain Coulee Enterprises (Brent Thorsteinson), Ladies’ long drive and closest to the pin by Altus Geomatics, Men’s closest to the pin by Graham and Alana Melsted and Long putt sponsored by Doug and Jody Jordan. John and Jeff Jones also gave their time to spot on Hole 2 for the first nine holes.
Tournament winners, shooting an 8 under 60, were Alana Melsted, Graham Melsted, Warren Lorenz, and Keith Broad. Team Captain Chad Mazurak was on hand to present their winnings on behalf of the Monarchs. First flight winners were Dylan Bentz, Dave Perkin, Braden Bentz and Riley Storzuk. Second flight winners were Chris Anderson, Mike Anderson, Jason Bartoshewski and Sharon Bartoshewski. Third flight winners were Tessa Jordan, Ian Marnoch, Aaron Lindal and Dalton Lindal. On top of donated prizes for all flight winners, there was also a 50/50 draw, raffle and silent auction on a Saskatchewan Roughriders’ 2013 Grey Cup print donated by Dale Spelchen.
